And this is just the beginning. It's going to get much worse before it gets better.

Even stranger than hiding behind "advanced analytics" is bragging about ripping off the players in the Basic Agreement.

It's getting ugly.

Ah. Just like I thought. It's the nerds with their computers who are causing all this trouble.

Statement from Major League Baseball yesterday:

“It is common at this point in the calendar to have large numbers of free agents unsigned. What is uncommon is to have some of the best free agents sitting unsigned even though they have substantial offers, some in nine figures. It is the responsibility of players’ agents to value their clients in a constantly changing free agent market based on factors such as positional demand, advanced analytics, and the impact of the new Basic Agreement. To lay responsibility on the clubs for the failure of some agents to accurately assess the market is unfair, unwarranted, and inflammatory.”

At what point do we start lowering the projection of medium free agents, especially pitchers who haven't signed yet.

At what point do we start spreading this idea to our league mates about top tier pitchers so they don't want to bid on them.

At what point does Boras blink on Hosmer and (whoever represents Darvish) blink on Yu?

For my all-FA team below in this thread, I'm guessing we could estimate their win expectation via Fangraphs if someone had the time.

Ah, Melky. Of course.

When they've all signed, we'll have to see what the salaries add up to. I assume the total would push the signing team well past the luxury tax.

Would it make the playoffs?

Don't forget me.  I'm a steady earner.

One could build a pretty good team out of the current free agents still available just a few weeks before ST starts.

C: Lucroy
1B:Hosmer

2B: Walker
3B: Moustakis

SS:Nunez
RF: JD Martinez

CF:Gomez

LF: CarGo

DH: Morrison

Backups:
  C Avila
1B/3B Frazier
2B/SS Alcantara

OF: Jay, Dyson

Rotation: Darvish, Arrieta, Cobb, Lynn, Cashner

Bullpen: Holland, Watson, Oh, J.Garcia (long), J. Smith, Albers

(I got a little lazy with the bullpen)

Am I the only one who had a bit of a sour taste in their mouth over the change in the ball for the World Series?

I mean, if no one can throw sliders at all with that ball (that was the supposed complaint) then how is that fair?

I get that no one MEANT to do it, but really it seems like you shouldn't make any changes to the ball from the regular season.

Pageantry over game play.

So, is it collusion?

It's terribly boring, but I'm not sure if it's collusion.  Maybe it's that teams way of valuing players is getting similar to each other.

Also, many of these free agents have some sort of question mark.  Arietta (which one are we getting), Darvish (postseason drop), JD Martinez (was Arizona real or just Arizona), etc.

Also there are some position crushes (especially 2B).  I mean Neil Walker is who he is, but how much better is he than that fast, good fielding, AA/AAA prospect.

There is also the Pujols, Ellsberry, drag ...

Maybe Yelich / Realmoto getting traded will open the market for OF/C?

Thoughts?
