Mon, Aug 31 - Zach Plesac will return to the Indians' starting rotation on Tuesday versus the Royals.

He is essentially replacing Clevinger, who was traded to the
Padres on Monday afternoon. Plesac got in hot water with the Indians
after breaking protocol in Chicago earlier this month, but he's needed
now with Clevinger gone and should be a solid source of fantasy
production the rest of the way. (Rotoworld.com)

Sat, Aug 22 - Zach Plesac threw 77 pitches over five innings in a simulated game Thursday at the Indians' alternate training site.

Both Plesac and Mike Clevinger are maintaining a starter's workload as
they await their opportunity to return from exile.  That return could
realistically come as early as Monday, the end of their mandatory 10-day
stay at the alternate site, but the Indians aren't committing to
anything yet.  “What next week will be at is really hard to predict,”
Indians president of baseball operations Chris Antonetti said.  “We’ll
just have to continue to take things a day at a time, see what our team
needs and what opportunities there might be and figure out who might be
best served filling those opportunities when they arise.”  Plesac would
need to be kept down for an extra eight days for the Indians to delay
his arbitration eligibility by a year.

so far, Plesac and Clevenger have each been passed over for one turn in the rotation. which fuels the point that such selfish actions hurt the whole squad. No return to action has been announced through Aug. 20.

Selfish morons for sure. But I'll be shocked if he and Clevinger get additional punishment. The team will say the embarrassment is enough. Which is probably right.

Plesac (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list Tuesday.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Plesac was sent home by Cleveland on Sunday after violating team rules, and his placement on the restricted list will free up a spot on the active roster. The right-hander will have to quarantine for at least three days and test negative for COVID-19 before he's allowed to rejoin the team. The earliest that he'd be able to return is Friday, but the team may choose to impose additional punishments.

And today we learn that Clevinger was one of his "friends."  Selfish morons.

I was ready to switch off the TV Sunday night until announcers caught on to the catcher's interference against the White Sox. Game still on. Indians score. It's the kind of luck that good teams get. Not that I'm saying the Indians are good. Got half a lineup that can't hit. I was reminded for no apparent reason of baseball in 1959. Remember the poor-hitting, scrappy White Sox? They  went to the World Series, lost to the light hitting Dodgers. Indians had fallen apart in September, finished second as the Yanks took a gap year.

I was incapacitated that summer. Had such hopes for my Indians, led by Tito Francona, Minnie Minoso (finally back playing for the team where he started), Rocky Colavito (his last year as an Indian, who could have guessed?), Vic Power, Jim Piersall, Billy Martin (bet you didn't remember that), George Strickland, Woody Held, and pitcher Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish. Mudcat Grant, too.

Nice to see Sandy Alomar Jr. managing a ballclub (while Tito mends, I hope). But when he sent Luplow up to hit against a righty  at a key moment in the game, I didn't like it much.

It was a good game.

How dumb is this?

From Rotowire:

August 9, 2020

Plesac was sent home by Cleveland on Sunday after violating the league's health and safety protocols, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

ANALYSIS
Plesac reportedly went out with friends following Saturday's start, which
resulted in a violation of team rules and league protocol. As a result,
he'll be quarantined for 72 hours and tested daily for COVID-19. The
team took quick action with the right-hander in order to prevent
exposure to the rest of the team. Whether his absence will have an
impact on his scheduled start for Saturday remains to be seen. However,
he could presumably be ready to take the mound by then if his COVID-19
tests come back negative.
