No love for Cespedes, but not so much a prediction of failure as an evaluation that he's far from a slam dunk. It wouldn't surprise me if he earned $15 this year, but I'm not paying for that because I think there's a fair chance he earns $9.

And that evaluation will definitely be skewed (more than it probably should) by spring training.

Well, a big part of "$6" involves the risk inherent in the unknown. I want to see him play (and at least have a good chance to win an Opening Day job) before I go higher. Certainly some chance he starts the season in the minors, at least for a while, though it's true that the A's give him a better chance at starting the season in the bigs. All that risk, not doubt about his abilities, are what keep me from going higher in February. If you have to draft now, I'd say it's foolish to put him above fourth OF status. Not that it can't pay off, but it is kind of drawing to an inside straight.

MikeG was not kidding us.
I can see the attraction of Oakland to a Cuban:
Utter poverty, brutal police and an organization run by a megalomaniacal dictator (sans beard) Billy Beane.

If that's the case, then maybe you are right to say Beane is a failure. Plunking $36 million down on a guy to produce those type of numbers, well, is a horrific assessment of talent.

I've read a lot about Cespedes. I'm not so sure that a $6 bid isn't that far off.

A $6 bid in the Guide...no love for Cespedes? I would be cautious, too, but I would definitely bid $10-$12. I have a feeling he will go for $20 in my AL (in which I will gladly let him go).

The A's run their team in a way that will remind him of home.
