Went with $22M extra over 2 extra years to set himself up for life.  I'm more shocked by the Braves than I am by Smith.

Has opted for three years and $39 million over the qualifying over. Gets a fourth year at the same per-annum if the Braves think he's worth it, a $1 million buyout if they don't.

Remains to be seen if he's the closer or shares the job with Melancon or pitches the 8th ahead of him.

We just hope it's cleared up before we pay.

He does seem to be the most obvious candidate to say yes to the QO.

The Gigantes offered Smith a qualifying offer of $17.8M for one year before he would become a free agent without draft pick compensation attached.  I can't see anyone signing him if nobody would sign Kimbrel.  2020 results notwithstanding, Kimbrel has always been a much better pitcher than Smith.

Verlander pitching a no hitter with one baserunner allowed in a 2-0 game is why. He had a .666 WPA in it. Gerrit Cole in his 8 Inning 1 run 1 baserunner outing in a 21-1 had a WPA of just .147 bc once the score got to 9-0 in the 3rd the Win probability for the Astros had already reached 100%.

Quite a change in two weeks, no? What's that all about?

Now there are four players from the AL.

Re Texpope's recent post under Harper, how does Harper rate third among all hitters in both leagues?

Only two of the ten play in the AL.
