I wonder how Story and Arenado, two Gold Glovers who have made throwing errors on what would have been the last out in games their team lost, look in WPA?

When the actual results are markedly better, the implication is he overachieved. He was lucky.

I look at his SO% and the way he hit to all fields and put him on my target list. I hope the people I'm bidding against when his name comes up think he was lucky.

And I'm not buying him as my first baseman.

He's been so critical of WAR, because he doesn't believe one number should be used as a judge of a player's value. Of course, Win Shares lost in the marketplace of ideas compared to WAR, so maybe it's sour grapes. But, I think he's abandoned the concept of summing up a player's value.

Ty France gets 28 Wins Shares in the Bill James Handbook, compared to 24 for Marcus Semien. Curious, no?

Mark Simon writes the intro to the Win Shares section. Maybe Bill has moved on.
