As you might expect for a guy who had never played above High A, Marcano flailed in his first MLB stint (.484 OPS) - but when you look at his K/AB and K/BB he comes off looking pretty good.  Per Statcast a pretty decent hard hit rate (31%) - but a negative launch angle led to the low BABIP.

Assuming he's working on the launch angle thing in El Paso, because his line there (.324/.403/.523) with 1/3 of his hits going for extra bases (including 4 HR) says he's getting it out of the infield.

But with SD's offensive depth - hard to see when a callup might come again.

Tucupita Marcano, UTIL, Padres—Marcano's performance in spring training was so strong that he won a spot on the Padres Opening Day roster despite the fact he'd never played a regular season game above Low-A. After being used exclusively as a pinch-hitter and defensive replacement in his first nine games, Marcano made his drew his first career start on Thursday and notched his first career hit with an RBI double in the Padres' 8-3 win over the Pirates. Marcano, the Padres No. 8 prospect, has long been lauded for his ability to drive the ball to all fields, and he showed it by driving a 95-mph fastball from Mitch Keller the other way down the left-field line.

Up from the depths. He makes great contact but it certainly seems when he gets to first, he should be content with that.
