After missing most of the last month of the season, the Pirates are certainly happy to have him back for the post season. A couple of hits and run scored in the Wild Card game and a homer and SB today...that's not even bringing up his defense in LF, which could be just as important.

He really is an exciting player.

The finger injury this week has derailed a shot a 50 SB season. Just hoping he avoids the DL and can get back in the line-up and keep producing offensively.

This is why wins is such a great category. The only other category that comes close is saves.

I was sweating that bottom of the 10th. As horrible as my luck has been on getting wins(I've had 4 the last 3 weeks and 2 of them were because I had both starting pitchers and 1 other on was because Minor helped himself with 2 out HR in a scoreless game) it would have been unbearable for Grilli to blow that win for Melancon. Rox bullpen almost blew one for me also today.

An amazing game, and huge win for the Pirates helped by Marte's 2-out RBI single to tie the game in the 9th off Frieri. Scoring 7 runs in the 9th and 10th to sweep a $220M payroll Angels squad on the road? Well, this is huge for Pirates fans. Just hope Grilli had a bad day.

I have not heard of any issues of him being a bad teammate, or "uncoachable", and Cutch is one of the most stand-up, young players in the game. Based on their celebrations in the OF after a win, and Marte's success this year, I would assume Cutch has already taken him under his wing to help him keep his head on strait.

That's all pure speculation on my part, but I think Marte has a solid support system on that team between Cutch, Burnett and Hurdle.

Sounds like he needs a mentor. Any indication that he and McCutchen are close and/or work together?

Hey DoctorG! Watching Marte every day, it appears pitchers are learning how to pitch to him. They are not giving him anything good to hit early in counts, since he swings at everything. He has an 19K/2BB ratio in May...and that plagued him in the minors.

He swings very hard, and the 4 HR's over 5 days a few weeks back is when I started to see some of the bad habits resurface. He really should not be hitting leadoff with those K/BB rates, but the Pirates just don't have a better option right now.

He's still getting his hits, but the OBP has taken a hit with the lack of patience of late, and with Marte looking to mash every ball out of the park.

I am not worried...he is a special player and he will make adjustments.

Slyke...what has been your impression watching him since your last comment? He seems to be struggling lately.
