Finally worked his first big league walk last night (47 PA's). Not sure he is the best fit at lead-off right now, but he sure is exciting and the Pirates need his bat and glove in the line-up.

glad i was wrong. hits his first home run in his first big league game. I was expecting more speed than power early, but who's complaining?

Finally!

Hitting leadoff and playing in LF tonight for the Pirates in his big league debut.

McGehee and Alvarez have solidified their roles, and Garrett Jones has been solid enough to still see plenty of at bats. Giving Marte full time at bats means relegating Presley to a reserve role, along with Sutton.

With the offense firing on all cylinders lately, and Presley playing better prior to the concussion, I think they will be patient enough to hold Marte off another few weeks at least.

But I definitely like Marte over Cole

His top 3 comps in the 2012 Baseball Prospectus book- Peter Bourjos, Rocco Baldelli, Ellis Burks.

I would take Marte, DoctorG.

He will be up this year and should be on the 2013 opening day roster. That speed/power combo makes him very intriguing to me.

Who would you rather have on your fantasy team (NL only 5x5) as a $0 minor leaguer?:
Starling Marte or
Gerrit Cole

Reports out of Pittsburgh say he will be called up soon to replace Tabata.

.287/.344/.493 with nine homers, 49 RBI, 16 stolen bases in AAA. As a Pirates fan, I say bring him up now...Tabata is not a hustler. Hurdle has not been able to get through to him.

I think you steal a dollar apiece from McLouth and Presley. Because they both strike me as reserves, and Tabata's not a whole lot better imho.

His name merges Starlin Castro with Andy Marte. With such a mix of potential and catastrophe, how can you not be tempted

The batting average, as we all suspected, proved to be unsustainable! Heads to the minor league practice field today batting .520. Ended up with three homers and two stolen bases.
