Thread: Stage Four

It doesn’t exist. But we keep hoping.

Welcome! You are invited to wander around and read all of the comments that have been posted here at Patton & Co., but as soon as you register you can see the bid limits that Alex, Peter and Mike propose for each player, and you can post your own comments. Registering is free, so please join us!

So it comes down to the directions/differences in approach. Good thing for me this isn't H2H. I don't feel confident.

I'm done.  I put a lot of time and energy into it, swapping players and moving lineups around to optimize my stats.  I have 7 different teams saved on my computer.  I also swapped out at least a dozen players who aren't saved on any of my rosters.

BA .3279

Runs 1734

HR 547 (I knew I would be light here)

RBI 1605

SB 410

ERA 1.9407

WHIP 0.8975

Saves 47

K's 2254

Yes, my one closer is Zach Britton with his 47 saves, 0.54 ERA and 0.84 ratio.  Couldn't get Eck's 1990 season on or Edwin Diaz, so I needed to go for ERA and Ratio and hope to beat any no closer teams in saves.

So far I beat you in one cat and I'm almost done.

The rules are diabolical.

Go Alex. I finally threw up my hands and submitted. My totals are:

BA .3167

Runs 1680

RBI 1583

HR 584

SB 390

ERA 2.208

WHIP .930

Wins 154

Saves 114

K 2148

I'm nervous about the RBI. Watch it be my best cat.

I'm getting into this late. I'll post mine... if I get it done.

BTW, I've figured out a way to get Rickey on my team.  It's not his best season - 1985 b/c I couldn't let go of Gooden.  And, it wasn't 1990 b/c all of the 1990s seasons I had are transcendent:  Maddux 95, ARod, Bonds, Larry Walker 97, and da, da, da Albert Belle 98, Pudge Rodriguez 99 (yes, I took Bonds and ARod of the 90s).  I got rid of Canseco 40-40 b/c I couldn't stand him (and adding Rickey gave me the flexibility to dump some steals).   Belle was one of my favorite players and I had him for all of his biggest seasons including 95 and 98, so swapping those two was a huge emotional positive.  So was adding Rickey.

Plus I figured out a way to ditch Mike Scott who is one of my least favorite players ever - tough choice b/w him, John Tudor, and Jack Clark.

I think I'm done tinkering.  I'll post my roster and final stats when I submit tomorrow.

On the second tab of the spreadsheet it has all of the rules.

-Pos Eligibility:  A player is eligible for all positions he qualified for at the completion of the season you are using, using the 20-game previous season and 10 game in-season eligibility bar. DH is UT-eligible only, but any hitter can be used at UT.

I'm assuming 20-game qualification? 'Cuz otherwise Arod could count at SS for the Yanks. I had to use Soriano 2003 instead. Gave up Larry Walker for Ellis Burks 1996. I also went with the 40/40 Canseco.

I changed things up.  Took a different A's player 40-40 Canseco.  I was woefully low in HR after more analysis.  It might be worth ditching the category, but in so doing I don't think I could keep up in RBI and probably not even Runs.  Swapped 1980 Brett for 1980 Schmidt.  Cutting Tony Gwynn's .370 with 56 SB was probably the toughest move.  It's so perfect with the way I build a team.  Losing those huge Avg seasons lowered my average by 10 points even though I strengthened it with some other moves.

I'm up to 1.92 and 0.90 on the pitching side having ditched Eckersley's 1990 season for a starter.  It's a big change, but I'm now more competitive in Wins and Ks.

You're very welcome, Eugene. No Rickey for me for the same reason, but now you've got me scared because my stingy 2.17/.93 decimals are nothing next to yours. I did try to balance everything because this is an "overall" contest.
