Thread: Stage Four

It doesn’t exist. But we keep hoping.

Welcome! You are invited to wander around and read all of the comments that have been posted here at Patton & Co., but as soon as you register you can see the bid limits that Alex, Peter and Mike propose for each player, and you can post your own comments. Registering is free, so please join us!

Pitching tends to cost more in 4x4 leagues, in part because closers cost $10 more or so per closer.

10-15 percent inflation, almost all of it went to the pitching side, which is how we ended up with that odd split.

What was the inflation? I'm not an AL guy, so I can't tell by looking, but it looks like just one $40+ player - Trout.

And by my count there were 11 pitchers that went for $25+. That seems like a lot. I've got just 3 25+ pitcher bids for the PCL auction.

Of course, since you guys have been doing this for 40 years, and I routinely finish near the bottom in pitching, I'm guessing it's me that's got it wrong.

Link to the ADL auction results here.

I'm the BadK, Alex's team is the Moose.

Hat tip to Mike Gianella who served as auctioneer and did an excellent job.

Yellow cells are keeps. Pink cells are minor leagues, who require a minimum bid of $10.

The numbers below the reserves are the order in each round.

Holy smoke. We spent 36 percent on pitching! And I spent the least on pitchers.

When we asked CBS if we could display a player's stats while he was active on your team, the response was, "Huh?"  Since then, I've been told that there WAS some kind of way to do that via a custom report, but it was unanimous to leave.  Just too many issues; too many simple things that we wanted to do that required too many steps.  Even if the new place (onroto) sucks, it'll suck in a different way, and one of our guys has used onroto for years in another league, and speaks highly of them.  We shall see.

Eugene's Stage 4 Hell was reenacted in the American Dreams yesterday. I'll compare the  prices we paid for the players he bought later today. Just eyeballing -- and from memory (I don't have the ADL rosters in front of me right now) -- the two auctions could be clones.

CBS is kinda weird isnt it re FAAB bidding? It seems this was an issue at times in PCL though perhaps I am mistaken about this.

It seems to me the biggest variance in Stage 4 is, at least in keeper leagues, how you distribute the inflation dollars, though I am aware of most of the theories presented here and elsewhere. I am primarily addressing only leagues with at least 12 teams. This is an area I believe where it is super important to know your competition.

Cool. For a few years I ran polls asking who was going to win each league, and all the ESPN people topped the polls. And they didn't win. Then I stopped running the polls and Ravitz and Cockcroft went on a tear.

I'm sure that would have been "predicted."
