Shane Baz (P) TB - Jun. 17
https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=14774
Baz yielded two hits over six scoreless frames in Friday's loss to Baltimore. He struck out seven and did not factor in the decision.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Baz looked much better in his second start of the season, allowing just three baserunners in the clean outing. He threw 48 of 76 pitches for strikes, including 14 whiffs, and struck out the side in his final frame. He's sporting a 5.40 ERA through 8.1 frames after missing the start of the season due to an elbow injury. Baz <gulp> is projected to face the Yankees at home next week.

He will be up on Friday or Saturday to start for the Rays. They've already optioned Yarbrough to AAA.

BA Hot Sheet:
11. Shane Baz, RHP, Rays
Team: Triple-A Durham (International)
Age: 22
Why He’s Here: 0-0, 1.08, 8.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 14 SO, 0 HR
The Scoop: In a pair of rehab outings, Baz showed he might just be ready to add a jolt to the Tampa Bay rotation. After whiffing four in his first turn against Nashville, the 22-year-old righthander turned it up a couple notches in the series finale by striking out 10 Sounds hitters, doubling the total he’d accumulated in three prior rehab outings with the Bulls. Sunday’s outing also marked his fourth career 10-strikeout start, a career-best he set three times in 2021. (JN)

Shane Baz (P) TB - May. 19
https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=14774
Baz (elbow) allowed one hit and one run while striking out five and walking none across 2.1 innings Thursday during a rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham.
ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Baz made his first rehab appearance since undergoing elbow surgery March 21. He allowed a leadoff home run to Lewin Diaz in the second inning but racked up plenty of swings and misses otherwise. Baz threw only 24 pitches and is not eligible to return from the injured list until early June, so he will likely make a few more outings with Durham.

No change in projected value even thogh had arthroscopic surgery on elbow?
Mar 25
No throwing for 2-3 weeks. He had "loose bodies" removed from his elbow. Is that the same as bone chips?

Sneak preview of Rotoman's Guide; notice the two different rankings (2nd is for dynasty leagues):
2/#7 SHANE BAZ
SP TAMPA BAY RAYS
2022: He’s the “third piece” of the legendary Chris Archer trade, after Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow. It’s not a stretch to say that after finding his control last year he could be the best of the bunch. His BB/9 went from 4.1 in 2019 to 1.5 and the improvement mostly held after promotion to the majors. Add control to a high-90s fastball and two great breaking pitches and you make Pirates fans cry.
LONG-TERM: Will be an upper-end member of the rotation in 2022 and forward. The immediate issue is the innings load, having not yet thrown 100 innings as a pro.
