Boston Red Sox — Matt Barnes was used in the eighth inning yesterday and that left Ryan Brasier for the ninth inning again.  Brasier converted the save chance and now has five saves in the Red Sox eight wins so far this season.

Hierarchy remains: *Brasier | Barnes | Workman.
* = closer-by-committee

Boston Red Sox — Boston turned to Matt Barnes to get the last out of the seventh inning — and he had to do it twice, striking out Hanser Alberto on a wild pitch, then striking out Jesus Sucre to achieve a robust 54 K/9 for the game. Boston added a couple runs, but Tyler Thornburg gave them back in the ninth, and the save was left for Ryan Brasier. Barnes and Brasier are splitting high-leverage work so far, but Brasier now has the last three saves, so we’ll move him up in this committee. Brandon Workman, who pitched a clean eighth inning last night, has a perfect ERA on the season, and has seen the late innings more frequently recently.

Updated hierarchy: *Brasier | Barnes | Workman.
* = closer-by-committee

After forking out $19 for Matt Barnes, I said to myself: "No problem. I'll just buy Ryan Brasier cheap."

When the bidding reached $5, I said to myself, "That's not cheap," and let him go.

Ryan Brasier (P) BOS - Mar. 14

Brasier (toe) threw his first batting-practice session prior to Wednesday's game against the Twins, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Brasier, who's been bothered by a toe infection during spring training, could appear in a game this week. Manager Alex Cora played down the late start to game action but acknowledged the reliever will need to catch up in the last week of spring training. With Boston's closer job available, Brasier is being closely watched, perhaps even more closely following Matt Barnes' shaky first two spring outings.

One of those mystery players, like Manny Pina, who doesn't appear in many people's searches. Colin has been unable to figure out why. I'll keep bringing these players up when asked.

Here's Ryan Brasier's page. Came to the rescue during the regular season, then allowed one run in nine postseason games.
