I'd like to see the reward kept and the penalty scrapped.  Just create new pick, don't take them from the signing team.

If Iglesias signs with someone else, the Angels get a draft pick. The signing team loses one. It seems to me the players insist that the reward and especially the penalty get jettisoned with the new CBA.

As we continue down through the ranks of Ken Davidoff's top 40 free agents...

23. Raisel Iglesias (RHP, Age 31)

The highest-ranking closer on the list, he scored points in Anaheim for being a strong teammate.

Prediction: Angels, four years, $60 million

Yeah, maybe you are right.  But it just seems like someone will gamble on Thor at 2-3 years.  I'd be very happy to see my Astros or my Nats give him, say, 3 years at $50 million.  Such a good upside gamble.  I certainly would not gamble the same on Iglesias.

I'd say it's Syndergaard.

If there is one guy who should accept the QO, it is him.

I hope Raisel's agent has been paying attention. The draft-pick baggage on top pf the anyone-can-close...

Extended qualifying offer
November 7, 2021
The Angels extended a qualifying offer to Iglesias on Sunday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Iglesias will have 10 days to decide whether to accept the one-year, $18.4 million offer. During his first year with the Angels in 2021, the right-hander converted 34 of 39 save chances with a 2.57 ERA and 0.93 WHIP across 65 relief appearances.

A win on Friday. A save on Saturday. A win on Sunday. Day off Monday. A save on Tuesday. This afternoon in Anaheim against the Red Sox he struck out the side for another save.

Occasionally, ever so occasionally, a reliever, it seems to me, should be included among Yesterday's Top Performers. For instance, last night in Anaheim when Raisel Iglesias came in to face the Mariners with the bases loaded, no outs, in the eighth inning, the Angels up 3-2.

1) Haniger fouled out to first

2) Seager struck out swinging

3) France struck out looking

Ninth inning.

1) Fraley flied out to center (shallow center)

2) Kelenic struck out swinging

3) Godoy struck out looking

Walks Betts, gives up a bloop single to Seager, protecting a 2-1 lead. Retires the next two and the Angels take two out of three.

Quintana started for the Angels, Bauer for the Dodgers.
