I don't see 2010 again because of the steals, for one, but the decline in BB has to be a big concern. This is the tipoff for every guy who has to start his bat a little sooner to get it done. A big homer year is a good possibility, but it's really unlikely he's going to again hit for high average with 40+ homers. One or the other is going to give.

Straight away center. The ball cut and twisted as it shot out there on a line. Hit about a foot below the top of the wall for his 50th double. It's a down season for Pujols, but a great season for just about anyone else. There's no doubt he's declining, but he's still a great player. I wouldn't rule out a bounce one of these years back to 2010 levels. It could be next year, or maybe 2014, but the rest of the way should be a slow steady decline like the past five years.

One more double and Pujols will become the second player since 1950 to have 3 seasons of 50 or more doubles. Brian Roberts also has 3. There are 48 total seasons of 50 or more doubles since 1950 (admittedly somewhat arbitrary).

True, but those slash stats are still below Albert's standards!

Take out the 1st month of games and his stat line is .308/.369/.586 with 38 2B 30 HR in 461 AB.

What's really odd, in my first season really following him, is that he goes weeks between HR at times. I know this is an aberration season for Albert, but the scan shows a slow and steady decline. By the time this contract reaches its final few years it's going to be brutal.

Reached the 100-RBI mark this afternoon. But even in the tougher hitting context, isn't going to match last year's pedestrian (for Pujols) earnings.

I think Albert has decided that he's not going to let Trout beat him in HR. Not that Trout has slowed down at all, but Pujols is starting to really get his stuff together. He's playing as well as last year, but has been the old fashioned Pujols since the All-Star Break.

ASB stats: .268/.334/.460 w/ 14 HR
Since: .364/.419/.779 w/ 8 HR and that's before his HR tonight.

Not to be outdone by Trout's triple, Pujols just crushed one off Pettitte. The obits were premature. He's just fine. Quite a month of May. .328 w/ 7 HR since Mickey Hatcher's removal according to the Yankees' graphic.
