Seems to be a poster boy for needing a launch angle adjustment.

At AA this year ...
plate discipline ... check (55 K/54 BB in 408 AB)
Size ... check (6-2, 210 lbs) (fortunately not 19892 lbs)
Pop ... check (42 extra base hits in 408 AB)
HR power ... nope (10 HR in 408 AB)

Jackson has a .85 park factor for HRs ... and 7 of Smith's 10 HR have come on the road.

Next year, he presumably gets to play in Reno, and in the PCL.  With the AAA baseball.  He's going to hit 20 HR even without a launch angle adjustment.  If he could make the adjustment ... perhaps there's a breakout power season coming next year.

The 2017 first rounder has largely been a disappointment ... and that was continuing until last week, as he was batting .213 as of last Tuesday.

Some kind of wakeup call happened ... and over the last 5 games he's gone 13-20 with 3 walks and 1 K.

After his hot start, since May 5 Christian Walker has batted .182/.258/.330.  Kevin Cron has a .884 OPS ... but in all of 16 MLB plate appearances.

Won't be up this year - there's no reason for Az to add him to the 40 man this year - but if the wakeup call is real then June could be the time he becomes the successor to Goldschmidt that he was drafted to be.
