"Refreshing candor" is offered by Nick Anderson.

But let's say Anderson was feeling at the top of his game and had been pitching that way? Kevin Keirmaier has the rebuttal to that.

“I don’t really care what the numbers say, third time through the order or whatever, there weren’t many guys making contact in general, and no hard contact whatsoever."

Sun, Aug 23 - Rays placed RHP Nick Anderson on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to August 20, with right forearm inflammation.

It's yet another blow to the Rays' pitching staff. The good news is it
appears Anderson's injury is relatively minor, with manager Kevin Cash
saying initial reports are "very encouraging" and they hope to have
their best reliever back soon. Diego Castillo looks like the best bet
for saves here, but Cash could still use multiple guys. (Rotoworld.com)

A one-out save in the seventh inning as the Rays split their double-header with the Yankees. It's an honest save: gets Judge to fly to the warning track in center with a two-run lead and a runner on.

Time of game: 2:47.

Rays snap a five-game losing streak, three of them to the Orioles (no lie), as Nick gets his first save.

Red Sox go down again.

Well said by Kevin Cash.

The Rays are specifically not naming Anderson (or anyone else) the closer, John Romano of The Tampa Bay Times reports. "We've tried to stay away from naming specific roles because we think it's a benefit to our club to be able to be versatile and prioritize matchups," manager Kevin Cash said. "But there's no way you can doubt the value of how challenging getting the last three outs of the game is."

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The Rays had 11 pitchers record saves last year, but Anderson wasn't one of them. Yet following the Emilio Pagan trade, he's the favorite to inherit at least the majority part of the role, but given the Rays' approach to the role, perhaps a little caution is advised, despite his excellent skills.

Despite baggies' wishful thinking on Feb. 9, the experts went with Eugene.

CBS $16

LABR $13

Tout Wars $15

If they're right, AP4 is too low.

When spring training came to a crashing halt: 5 games, 5 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, 6 SO, no runs.

The new saver for Tampa after they traded Pagan to San Diego.

Eh.  It may happen, but I doubt it.  I'm trying to cheap out the bullpen lately, and I have toppers on other relievers.  Yeah, he was great last year -- and TB won't hesitate to go elsewhere, which is smart, but bad for fantasy owners.

I know the Rays don't always use the same reliver to close games, but Pagan had 16 saves in the 2h last year. And he was worth $30 in 4x4. I would keep him at $15 in 4x4. Or at least try to trade him.

As for Anderson, he's a fine middle reliever, but $5 seems a bit pricey for a guy with 1 career save.
