Nine picks in last year's Guide.

What? You don't believe me?

DROOKER PICK: A pitcher with a 4.77 ERA? Yes,
because his FIP was a run lower and he struck
out 188 batters in 164 IP

DENNIS PICK: A 3.51 expected ERA against a
4.77 actual ERA and solid peripherals around
that. Seeds for growth as well. I like him at his
price tag a lot and you can bet I’ll be trying to
get him in NL redraft leagues.

ROTOROB PICK: His ugly record and ERA
masked some very promising trends, including
dramatically improved command and an elite K
rate. Pivetta had the highest BABIP in the ma-
jors last year, and his xFIP of 3.42 tells the story
of a pitcher on the cusp of breaking out.

ADLER PICK: The ERA didn’t show it, but he
made some real skills gains in 2018, with a big
boost in K/BB. Bitten by BABIP and a high home
run to fly ball rate, ERA improvement looks
likely. No stud, but a good late pick with upside.
FLOWERS PICK: Pounded the strike zone lead-
ing to an impressive 10.32 K/9 and with a 47
percent ground ball rate we’ve got some piece
to work with. Needs to find a way to get lefties
out to take the next step (.339 wOBA in ‘18).
WINICK PICK: The significant gap between the
results he got and the ones his skills sug-

gest he deserved make him a top breakout
candidate.

DAVITT PICK: Ugly 2018 outcomes (4.77/1.30,
7-14) hid some very interesting skills, starting
with a 27% K rate/7% walk rate that contrib-
uted to a 3.42 xFIP. He changed his pitch mix

in 2018 to make more use of his elite-spin
curveball, which he started throwing more in
all the counts: first pitches, even, or, increas-
ingly, when he was behind. Add in a 95-MPH
heater, which Pivetta can throw high in the zone
for strikeouts, and he has SP2 potential at an
SP4 price.

ZOLA PICK: Likely a popular pick as ERA es-
timators portend big positive regression with
bountiful punch outs.

PODHORZER PICK: Enjoyed a velocity spike
that fueled a surge in his swinging strike and
strikeout rates. Didn’t deserve an ERA closing
in on 5.00, and better batted ball luck and
ability to strand baserunners should drive that
mark down, potentially resulting in a breakout
season.

I'm not sure how much major league talent the AAA Buffalo Bisons sport, but yesterday Nick stuck out 14 of them.

Phillies optioned RHP Nick Pivetta to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

I'm hearing pickers grumbling that while Pivetta's K/BB results indicate success, he just seems too hittable when the ball is put in play. I think it's too early to judge that for sure, and would buy him in a second if someone were selling.

Not off to a very 9-pick no-pan worthy start with an ERA=9.45 and WHIP=2.175

Hope he turns things around soon!

Nine picks, no pans in Rotoman's Guide. Might be a record.
