Mike Zunino (C) TB - Mar. 19
https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=12450

Zunino and the Rays are trying out a new pitch-calling device, according to Adam Berry of MLB.com. The team raved about the system called PitchCom in an attempt to "improve the pace of play and eliminate illegal sign-stealing."

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: On Saturday, Zunino, and pitcher Phoenix Sanders used the system with Brandon Lowe also involved in the communication. Although the pitch-calling device isn't fantasy-relevant, it's another piece of information to consider as the game of baseball evolves. If the pace of play increases with its usage, maybe it leads to changes with balls in play, fatigue, shifts, or other unforeseen outcomes.

Top five Barrel% according to Statcast:

Zunino 24.3

Ohtani 22.3

Tatis 21.3

Acuna 20.3

Dalbec 20.2

Statcast's HardHit% for Zunino is 46.5. Well above average but among all hitters with 200 plate appearance that ranks only 66th.

The Barrel% at Fangraphs comes from Statcast and is for 2021. It would require more checking but the Rotowire Barrel% is almost identical to Zunino's 2020 rate.

The average EV is surprisingly low, considering how often the ball doesn't exit and how often it reaches the seats when it does.

The 24% Barrel% is from Fangraphs, who gets its data from Baseball Info Solutions. Not sure where Rotowire gets its data, but the Rotowire Barrel% for Zunino is 15.9.

Considerably lower but higher than anyone else who had at least 200 plate appearances last season.
