This seems to be the dumbest Q/O question out there.  The O's could offer Wieters $17.2M for one year.  He could take it again, but now that he's healthy and the only free agent catcher worth a damn it's unlikely because he'll get a multi-year deal.  If he does take it, the O's are paying him much less than they were paying him plus Trumbo this year.  Mancini should be the DH next season - if Duquette is thinking.  If he doesn't, they get a first round pick.  It seems like a great deal on both ends, because the O's don't have a quality catcher to replace Wieters until Chance Sisco is ready, and that's over a year away.

Sisco hit 320/406/422 at AA Bowie this year as a 21 year old.  He only hit 4 HR.  In AAA, he hit 2 HR in 16 ABs, though.  He'll be 22 years old to start next season.  His AA stats were consistent with his minor league track record of 323/402/434 in 1291 ABs.  Remember when Matt Wieters was billed as Joe Mauer with power?  Well, Sisco is Joe Mauer without power, aka Joe Mauer except for his MVP season.

The contract year push has slowed to a crawl and he's forgotten how to hit over the past 6 weeks - coincidently the same 6 weeks that Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo have stopped hitting.

I think he was $17 in LABR, which is not crazy, but is a commitment I wouldn't come close to making. And I like him, STILL, as a guy who might still have a very good year, at some point.

Having a hard time finding a bargain among the top 15 catchers or so.  Here's another that I believe is blowing by PK's bid and probably MF's as well.

He accepted the qualifying offer, which was a good move, and now he tells Peter Gammons he's feeling great.

Unlike last year. "There were times when I’d feel something, and while it would go away,
there was that constant concern about letting it fly both throwing from all the places catchers throw, and hitting.”
