Without him, we don't win.  That simple.  In mid-August, my partner put in three contingent FAAB bids for an open spot.  He was the third guy, for $1.

David Schoenfield at ESPN asks:

Will Matt Olson hit a double?

In a season of amazing accomplishments and unbelievable plots that didn't make sense, this is my new favorite freak stat of the season: A's first baseman Matt Olson has 24 home runs ... and two doubles.

Two! His teammate Jed Lowrie has had two doubles in a game eight times this season. It's almost impossible to have as much power as Olson and not hit any doubles. From Sarah Langs of ESPN Stats & Information: The fewest doubles in a 20-homer season is four, by Mark McGwire in 2001 (29 home runs) and Wes Covington in 1957 (21 home runs). Eddie Robinson, a first baseman for various teams in the 1950s, had 16 home runs and one double in 1955 with the Yankees.

Olson does have a low line-drive rate of 16 percent. He's not qualified for the leaderboards, but that would be the second-lowest rate, with only Hunter Pencebelow him. An incredible 39 percent of his fly balls have gone for home runs. Nobody else is close -- J.D. Martinez is next at 33 percent.

TMU that's funny.

Most irrelevant caveat ever - He still doesn't warrant consideration in mixed leagues.

Any day now, Rotoworld will recommend picking him up for your fantasy team.

Ray Flowers of Sirius XM tried dealing Olson in mid-August for a pitcher.

There were no takers.

Hit his 22nd HR last night. First rookie in MLB history with 11 HR's in September.

Also first rookie to hit 14 HR's in a 20 game span. Wow.

Homered again today...this rookie crop has been amazing this season.

Hit his 5th HR in his last seven games last night to get to 20 on the year.

Olson also hit 23 home runs in 79 games in the minors this season. He joins Giancarlo Stanton as the only two players in the last 30 years to hit at least 20 homers
at both the major and minor league level in the same season.
