Matt Duffy (3B) TB - Mar. 24

Duffy (hamstring) will be shut down from baseball activities for two weeks, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It turns out Duffy is dealing with a back injury on top of the hamstring issue that has bothered him throughout spring. He'll open the season on the injured list, and this latest setback confirms his stay on the shelf will extend beyond the minimum 10 days. Look for Yandy Diaz, Daniel Robertson and Joey Wendle to cover the hot corner in his absence.

Matt Duffy (3B) TB - Mar. 22

Duffy (hamstring) struck out in all three at-bats in his return to Grapefruit League action against the Braves on Thursday and got in nine at-bats in multiple minor-league games Friday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duffy finally seems to be on the right track for Opening Day. With the infielder having missed considerable time this spring, his frenetic schedule the last two days was intended to help Duffy accelerate the process of getting his timing down at the plate.

Matt Duffy (3B) TB - Mar. 14

Duffy (hamstring) was able to run at approximately 70-percent speed Thursday without issue and could field grounders Sunday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Duffy confirmed he was able to get through his workout without setbacks and proceeded to get some hitting work in afterwards. The goal is to get Duffy back into game action at some point next week, a step that would be preceded by live batting practices. Duffy confirms that he and the Rays are opting to take his recovery slower after he suffered a setback earlier in March, although he concedes he still may not be ready for Opening Day. However, even if Duffy isn't in uniform for the first game of the regular season, manager Kevin Cash confirms it won't be for lack of spring reps. "He doesn't have to have 50 at-bats," Cash said. "That's not a concern for us. I think if he clears himself healthy and gets out there enough where he's been tested, then he's fine."

Brett Anderson.

Just a hunch that he'll be effective until he gets hurt.

I read earlier that Duffy put on weight -- all muscle, of course -- during the offseason. If he wants to hold onto his job, it's a good idea.

Matt Duffy (3B) TB - Feb. 21

Duffy will miss a few days of spring training action after tweaking his hamstring, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: It's unclear how the injury was incurred, but the team is confident it is minor. Duffy will likely miss the first few spring games before resuming his normal role as the Rays' starting third baseman once his hamstring stops acting up. In the meantime, Yandy Diaz may see a bit more time at the hot corner, allowing Ji-Man Choi to log some innings at first base to fill the void.
