Matt Carpenter (1B) STL - Mar. 19

The Cardinals don't plan on having Carpenter (back) return to Grapefruit League action until at least Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Carpenter first experienced back problems Sunday, resulting in him being scratched ahead of the Cardinals' game against the Marlins. Manager Mike Shild said Monday that he's not concerned about Carpenter's availability for the start of the season, but the team will nonetheless proceed cautiously with the 33-year-old so that the back tightness doesn't become a lingering issue throughout the campaign.

Had 92 Long Fly Outs (balls that travelled at least 300 feet before being caught) last year, the most in the majors. Nick Castellanos was next with 88.

In 2017 Carpenter had the second most LFO with 98, behind Kyle Seager with 103.

Seager last year had 87.

Maybe I should have posted this under Seager.

Hitter No. 38 in $5x5 (both leagues).

2018 Statcast averages

HIP: 399

Avg Exit Velocity: 90.6

Avg HR Distance: 392 (398 is average)

Avg Launch Angle: 21.4

Appears to have changed his launch angle abruptly in 2015.

Had one homer right down the left field line; all the others were to center or right.

Bunted with great success for base hits and even beat the shift a number of times hitting grounders to the left side of the infield.

But by far the majority of the action was at or directly over the first baseman. An out or a trot around the bases was the likely result.
