I'm working on Big Prices for the Guide. Today I have Mark Melancon with a price of $4. What do you think?

San Francisco Giants — Mark Melancon has received a stem cell injection in his injured right pronator, but his next rehab step is not known. The Giants are hopeful he can begin a throwing program in two weeks, but there isn’t much optimism for that. Dr. James Andrews took a look at Melancon and determined his ligament is fine, so there’s that. In the meantime, Hunter Strickland will continue to get looks in the ninth.

Hierarchy remains: Strickland | Watson | Dyson.

Mark Melancon is still "feeling something" in his right arm, per Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area.

Pavlovic notes that the Giants are "unsure if he'll be ready for Opening Day." Melancon needed surgery last September to release pressure on the pronator muscle in his forearm and he hasn't felt right all spring. It looks like Sam Dyson may return to the closer role for San Francisco to kick off the 2018 campaign. There should be more information on this situation Wednesday

Eight teams "wheezing and gasping" as all 30 start preparing for a pennant race, according to Tyler Kepner in the Times today. Namely, the Angels, Giants, Blue Jays, Mariners, Rangers, Orioles, Nationals and Diamonbacks.

GIANTS It’s easy to look at the Giants’ roster and remember how great all those players once were. It’s harder to predict how much they have left. Except for Joe Panik, all of their projected everyday players will be older than 30 by the end of April, including the newcomers Evan Longoria and Andrew McCutchen. Two of their top starters, Johnny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija, and closer Mark Melancon are also over 30, and all struggled last season as the Giants staggered to 98 losses. This group might have one last run in it; no one is too far removed from stardom. It may not be getting better all the time, as the song goes, but perhaps it can’t get no worse.
