I wouldn't be surprised if Roenicke was inept on defense ... it's been 23 years since he's played a game in center.

I criticized Roenicke in the Hart thread for starting Kotsay in right field last night; now that I think about it some more, it was an almost defiant act of stubbornness on Roenicke's part.

After Roenicke was so inept on defense, as well as on the bases, as the starting center fielder the night before.

There were all kinds of reasons Kotsay should not have started in center field, almost all of them having to do with the fact that he can no longer cover the ground out there. But there's also a compelling reason why he should not have started in right field.

He's a very good pinch-hitter. Hit .293 this year (41 AB); in his career (134 AB) has hit .304 when called on to pinch hit.

A picture-perfect swing. Hits to all fields. One of those mysteries.

Former Golden Spikes winner - the college baseball Heisman. Kotsay won in 1995. Hard to believe there was a time where everyone was excited about this guy.

Some interesting names on the recipient list, a mix of stars and washouts. No Hall of Famers yet. What happened on the way to immortality, Will Clark? - http://tinyurl.com/4zj9xjf

He's fine for $1. But I agree with Rotoman. There isn't much upside here, and you're probably better off taking someone else at the end.

Guys who are his age coming off two years of non-injury related suckiness don't seem like a good bet, but a buck isn't much to wager if you're desperate.

Signed by Brewers for $0.8M to perhaps platoon with Gomez.
