It matters not in our league.  We have O's fans a-plenty; Manny will be bid up forever.  When he comes up for auction, my partner and I get to take a minute to get organized and make sure we're caught up, because we'll never have Manny.

The splash of cold really cold water for fantasy is he went from 20 to no steals. He's a fantastic player, but if he doesn't steal his fantasy value is muted.

Of course, he's young enough he could turn it back on again.

He began the year batting leadoff.  After a series of injuries in the lineup, Showalter moved Machado to 3rd and Adam Jones to leadoff.  It definitely surpassed Manny's RBI early in the season.  I would like to point to his growth as a power hitter.  His HR are similar to last year, but the doubles are up again raising the slugging 50 points in the process.

A perfect relay to nail the tying run at home for the 27th out and keep Britton's save streak going.

Surprising that Machado doesn't yet have 100 RBIs. Needs nine more with 15 games left.

Had three homers and seven ribbies this afternoon after three innings.

If you owned him and you watched this game, you were slightly disappointed -- admit it -- when he did nothing in his next three AB.

I think Machado's biggest problem at SS was positioning.  He had solid range, or so it appeared, and obviously a tremendous arm.  His hands were solid, but he did make some bobbles on plays that weren't rushed.  I do think he was misaligned to a degree.  It was definitely the Cal Ripken, JJ Hardy positioning advantage.  Those guys just seem to know where to stand for each count and batter.  Machado is just playing SS, not playing the count and batter, etc.  I think it's something he could learn over time.  That said, his foot speed is declining as he gains upper body muscle.  Hardy has no foot speed to speak of, but somehow makes up for it.  The best alignment is definitely Hardy at SS and Machado at 3B.

Also, I'd say that if he was simply 3 runs below average ... and not 3 runs below replacement ... he was still doing the job.

Per BBReference, he was -11 "defensive runs saved per 1200 innings" as a SS.

In 2010 Derek Jeter was -8 "defensive runs saved per 1200 innings" over the course of the season ... and won the AL Golden Glove for shortstops.

All I care about is his presence. It kills me in the ADL that I have to play him during the suspension, but I figure the rest will take care of itself.

Advocates of those defensive stats say it takes two years to get a true picture of talent. I'm going to trust Eugene's assessment over any numbers at this point (which doesn't mean I'm saying the numbers are wrong).

That's 'cause all you care about is his O, Peter. Which is pretty damned impressive.

I wish he was back at third. Two more games to wait.
