When I say don't pay up for a youngster's career year it is exactly because the context or usage are likely to change, and there's no way to tell if this is his baseline skill or pitching/fielding corrections with rein him in. But there is also the chance that there is more to come.

I don't think the SB ability is a fluke. My question would be context. He batted leadoff a lot this year;  but will he run as much as he gets moved into a power spot in the lineup.

Not sure about that. The SB are a fluke.

As they say in First Pitch Arizona.

He's going to cost you more than $30, depending on whether the guy bidding against you read your note. I think it is wise not to pay up for a 23 year old's career season, but there's no way he goes for less than what he earned this year.

I've decided to be a fanboy and get Machado next year.  What is he going to cost me in 5x5 before inflation?

Oh, so it doesn't apply to Ruben Tejada :-)

Tex, that comes from Bill James years ago, and without counting 'em I think it has held up. Applies only to hitters BTW.

Ruben Tejada is a reason why it's only 50/50 :-)

The stat they keep throwing around on Baseball HQ radio ... and I haven't independently verified this ... is that if you are an MLB regular at 21, you have a 50% chance of making it to the HOF.

Ruben Tejada still has hope!

He's missed a lot of time and had surgery on both knees, but he's put it all together this year.  And, it's critical to note that he and Bryce Harper are in their age 22 seasons.  A year year younger than Joc Pederson and Kris Bryant.  There's something about these guys who make it up in their teens.
