Manny Machado is absolutely incredible in the field. Threw one from behind the third base coaches box after fielding a hard one hopper behind the bag in a snow cone.

That said, I can't take too many more of these extra innings games. I'd like to go to sleep this week.

Machado and the O's are playing in Oakland tonight. First meeting since the Machado suspension. Hoping nothing happens in the series, but we have all seen players and teams have long memories.

Pedro Guerrero got 6 games one year for throwing a bat at someone. It was the same year Pete Rose got suspended 30 games for hitting Dave Pallone's hand with his nose.

Five games it is and Machado is appealing. I think what concerns me the most is that the bat toss was the final event in a series of events. There was the "rough" tag and helmet toss. The contact with Norris on more than one occasion, finally resulting in him being pulled from the game with no apology forthcoming. Finally there was the "oops, it slipped" situation. I think the kid has some growing up to do and quick. Unless I'm missing something I haven't heard a lot of support for Machado coming from either the organization or his teammates. As far as a trek to Norfolk is concerned, I don't think Duquette would make a statement of that sort if he wasn't considering following through on it. Will he? Probably not, but a serious reading of the riot act and discussion on the code of conduct will be happening, if it hasn't already occurred.

Reports are Machado will be suspended 5 games. I don't know, but that seems a little light to me.

Do you think there is any truth to Duquette's statement that they might send Machado down to AAA?

The crew chief after the game agreed, Tim, saying the bat toss was "not accidental".

Wonder if a suspension could be looming?

I'm not buying the "oops, it slipped" argument Manny. Is anyone? After reviewing the tape of the supposed "hard tag" by Donaldson, I don't see any problems there either. About five games worth of reflection should be next on the agenda for young Mr. Machado.

Interesting obseravtion by Joey Cora, passed along by Peter Gammons.

Alex Cora remembers when he moved to third, then tried to go back to short.

“I had lost all my angles at shortstop,” says Cora. “It’s really hard. Third base is like being in a cage. You react to everything. Shortstop is all about angles, playing angles. I thought Xander (Bogaerts) was getting better and better, and he had been moved to third, then went back. But it took him time in this season to start getting his angles back.

“Seldom do players go from third to short. Manny Machado should just stay at third, where he is great. Going back to shortstop would be terribly difficult. The same could be true for Xander.”
