Based on the first two weeks across baseball, that number might double in 2019.  I hope the Royals do well this year, if only for a reconsideration of this Earl Weaver era.

He's a punk.

I don't agree in this case, but Manny has earned this kind of scrutiny and disdain ... D-backs announcers call Manny Machado bush league

Here's what the Wise Guy (who writes now for TheAthletic) had to say about Manny when he was penning his comments in early winter:

Manny Machado  You can be dumb and
still be a great hitter, as Manny has shown on both counts. Only a dolt would
make the Johnny Hustle comment  - and then demonstrate it two days later.
His agent must have blown a gasket. There remains the distinct possibility that
Machado plays 2019 an unhappy man, and there is evidence that he has a mean
streak, and when added to the dumbness I believe the phrase is "at
risk."

Which wouldn't stop me, except that Manny looked bad in the postseason, indeed all
year he had trouble with the high fastball. He will see more of them. Even more
troubling is that in his career Machado has slugged 90 points higher in Camden
Yards than everywhere else. $23

What I'm wondering: with the Trout signing, is the possibility more distinct?

He looked awfully good at short during the World Series, but the defensive metrics tell a different story during the regular season, especially with the Orioles (-18 Defensive Runs Saved Above Average in the BIS system).

Manny Machado (SS) SD - Feb. 21

Machado has agreed to play third base for the Padres, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: After making only 16 starts at third base a season ago for the Dodgers, Machado will move back to the hot corner for the 2019 campaign and beyond, per Heyman. He spent the majority of 2018 at shortstop, and although he put together quite a highlight reel there, his transition back to third base will work in San Diego's favor, especially if their No. 1 prospect, Fernando Tatis Jr., surfaces in the big leagues in the near future.

If you were choosing between 3 similar situations---teams thinking they will compete soon---and roughly equivalent money, where would you want to live, Philadelphia, Chicago, or San Diego?  Manny went for the beach.  He's no fool.
