Manny Ramirez enters his 4th year on the ballot and has remained just under the 25% mark so far in his candidacy. "Manny Being Manny" was a common saying among baseball fans thanks to Ramirez's high profile antics, but he got to HOF candidacy because of his offensive prowess. Manny Ramirez's 154 adjusted OPS+ is 7th in the Expansion Era (since 1961) among players with at least 7000 plate appearances. While he may be best known for his time with the Red Sox and his role in the 2004 and 2007 World Series, his first 4 All-Star selections came with the Indians in the 90s, also earning 3 top-6 MVP finishes in his last 3 seasons in Cleveland.

A common refrain with considering the high-offense candidates is that defense left something to be desired. By Fielding Runs, Ramirez finished 3rd-worst among primary corner outfielders in MLB history, only trailing Gary Sheffield and Adam Dunn. But even with the defensive penalties, Ramirez has the 9th highest WAR among primary corner outfielders in the Expansion Era, only trailing Barry Bonds, Larry Walker and 6 HOF inductees. Ramirez's case has yet to make headway despite his impressive numbers due to late-career revelations of PED usage, receiving a 50-game suspension in 2009 and a 100-game suspension in 2011.
