That he's now in San Fran.

Why is it ironic? That he's now on the Giants?

He's from my neck of the woods, Caldwell County, NC (ironically enough, perhaps the most Republican county in the country; I'm a Libertarian City Councilman). I drafted him on my farm team when he was still a senior in high school (April 2007). Would have paid off great, except I traded him last year. :)

I'm still bummed by him, aesthetically, but I sure enjoyed watching the Rangers get flummoxed. When is the last time we watched Vlad get cheated on a swing? As if to prove it was no illusion, he did it twice!

Thanks to Cliff Lee, it's not quite over, but it's awfully close.

Watching the game tonight I kept thinking about how you, Alex, derided Bumgarner's slinging when we watched him last week. I was impressed tonight by the way he mixed slinging and hurling, changing arm slots, release points, speeds and all else, without sacrificing control.

Anyway, good call on the Rangers' frustration. Vladdy was most flummoxed, but it was an impressive performance against a potent lineup.

Everyone assumes the Rangers are going to tee off on this lefty slinger tonight, because he's a rookie and he's a lefty, but I wouldn't bet on it. The pressure is still on the Rangers, and the way Bumgarner slings the ball will cause them problems, at least initially.

Kevin Goldstein's report at BP:

Things continue to look up for Bumgarner, as the velocity is starting to return to his game. He's not quite where he was during his breakout 2008 campaign, but upper 80s has been replaced with consistent low-90s, and if anything his previous struggles taught him how to pitch without his best stuff, and he's coming out of it as a better overall pitcher. His stuff is above-average now, and if he gets all the velocity back and starts lighting up radar guns by touching the mid-90s again, he could be back in the big leagues.

He's sitting on my reserve list in Tout Wars waiting for the call. Hopefully, the fact that Mike Stanton is sitting there too is taking some of the pressure off :)
