I don't think this closes the book on the Pads Eugene.  In fact, maybe the opposite.  Abrams, a now-discounted Gore, and more for Soto??  I sure hope my Nats would listen to that!  Nats shouldn't care a wit about next year.

And every other team in the Soto sweepstakes breathes a sigh of relief that the Padres may have lost one of their biggest chips. Meanwhile, the thought of Soto batting between Tatis and Machado down the stretch was really exciting.

MacKenzie Gore (P) SD - Jun. 04
https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=14766

Gore (4-1) earned the win against Milwaukee on Saturday, pitching six scoreless innings during which he allowed three hits and three walks while striking out 10.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: Gore was dominant in the start, tying his career high with 10 strikeouts and inducing 14 swings-and-misses. The rookie threw 108 pitches -- his most as a big-leaguer -- and didn't allow any extra-base hits. After seeing his prospect stock drop last season, Gore has turned things around in his first opportunity in the majors, logging a 1.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 57:17 K:BB across 48 innings. The early Rookie of the Year favorite is expected to make his next start at home against Colorado next weekend.

MacKenzie Gore (P) SD - May. 22

Gore (3-1) earned the victory, striking out six over six innings while allowing one run on three hits and two walks in a 10-1 win Sunday in San Francisco.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: With the Padres already ahead by seven runs, Gore allowed a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning for the only run against him in an otherwise stellar outing. It was the first time the young lefty completed six innings in a game at the major-league level. The 23-year-old has put up excellent numbers to start his career and has a 2.06 ERA with 38 strikeouts over 35 innings, allowing just one long ball.

Along with Nick Martinez, being sent to the bullpen upon the return of Blake Snell.  May be good or both of them, as it will limit innings and possibly allow them to get vulture wins as Snell and others work up to pitching 5 innings.

Eno Sarris's response to being asked what his model thought about Gore's performance so far in the comments of an article he put up on The Athletic this morning.

The good news is that the fastball is above-average by shape and location. Model likes his slider too. Placing the slider really poorly, placing everything but the fastball poorly. But at least two good pitches by action, one by command, a chance that he improves the command on one of his secondaries, and two more show-me pitches in the change and curve. It's a good but not great beginning.
