As of Chase Headley's homer and Jose Abreu's(!!!) stolen base this afternoon, the Bags and Bad K were indeed tied. The Yankee pitchers hemorrhaged runs however, and Bags gave up an RBI point. As I write I lead 71-70.

I wish I were tied with rotoman. In fact he has a two point lead, which looks like the Grand Canyon to me..

It would seem there are no atheists in the foxhole with the pennant on the line.

Baggies, the team I'm tied with, actually has six starts left, even after the Jays shut Stroman down. And they're good pitchers! Kluber, Iwakuma, Pineda, Tai Walker, Jose Quintana. No self congratulation intended, only mistaken relief.

i can only hope the baseball gods are reading this site, and inclined to deal sternly with this kind of self-congratulation. but probably not.

I carried Kyle Gibson for most of the season, but benched him two weeks ago because he was suddenly killing my ERA and I had a good lead in Wins. But 10 days with ZERO wins put me one behind, and so I stewed all day about whether to activate Gibson.

One factor was that I have him for $1 next year, but he's slated to go on Sunday. If he had crashed tonight I might have had to dump him. Though he is facing the Tigers on Sunday, a game I expect will not have them presenting their best lineup.

But the matchup was right so I went for it, and it was classic Gibson. No walks, a strikeout an inning +1, Well, Mark Trumbo was in the lineup. Gibby got the W, I added half a point to my lead and now have something like four more starts than the team I'm tied with.

I like that. Though I see a little Maddux in there, which is obviously grandiose.

I didn't see today's delightful game (I own him in ADL), but I watched earlier starts and he's got great movement and is clearly working on throwing strikes early in the count no matter the cost. He's not a hard thrower, but if he masters his repertoire he'll be an Ace. If not, he'll be a strong three. We'll see about that.
