The Great Fantasy Baseball Invitiational consists of 21 15-team leagues made up primarily of fantasy baseball writers, radio folks, and experts. You can win your own league, that's one race, and then there is a combined race. Teams were put together in drafts in late March.

There is also a standings for players. Which players are on the worst teams overall.

In order: Freeland, Joey Wendel, and Brandon Nimmo.

This is news. Make of it what you will. A commitment to improving ably expressed is pretty cool.

But the prices of half of them were cheap.

Do I see Mike G's fingerprints?

What jumps our at me is, the average price of the ten best NL starting pitchers was....

a lot.

Just back from long visit on the West Coast, I'm delighted to find the new Baseball Forecaster in my mailbox. So I'll be busy all day.

Just opening it at random... Kyle Freeland.

"One of 2018's top SP profit centers, he even posted a 2.40 ERA at Coors Field."

Hey, that's what I said on Dec. 16.

I guess everyone's going to point that out.

"Three reasons he'll be overvalued: 1) FpK gains offset by high ball%; 2) that strand rate won't stick; 3) improving BPV still below average and unsupportive of such a low ERA. xERA tells the true story. That's the prudent baseline."

Freeland's FpK (first-pitch strike rate), we see in the stat scan, was 62%. Benchmark for starting pitchers is 60%.

Freeland's strand rate was 80%. Benchmark is 70%.

His BPV (Base Performance Value) was 78. Benchmarks: below 50 bad, above 100 elite.

BPI (Base Performance Index), also in the stat scan, tells the story more clearly. 100 is average; Freeland's BPI last year was 90.

His xERA (expected ERA) was 4.19.

Like I say, I'll be busy.
