I always project him near the top of the closer ranks.  I think $8 won't touch him.

I'm working on Big Prices for the Guide. Today I have Ken Giles with a price of $8. What do you think?

Toronto Blue Jays – Ken Giles pitched a scoreless ninth inning, and although it was not a save opportunity with the Blue Jays up 4, we will move Giles to the head of the committee.  Ryan Tepera was used in the eighth inning ahead of Giles.  We will leave it as a committee right now since John Gibbons could choose to ease Giles in by still using Tepera occasionally, but we expect Giles to get the bulk of the save chances for the Blue Jays for the rest of the season.

Updated hierarchy: *Giles | Tepera | Clippard.
* = closer-by-committee

Was optioned to AAA today.

As a Rondon owner, I hope this opens the door for him to be the everyday closer.

I'm the guy with both Rondon and Devenski based upon Giles usage pattern in the playoffs last year.  Even if the saves haven't been evenly distributed, the ERA, Ratio, and Ks have been nice.  And, it's kept me out of last in saves for only $7.  Combined my two pitchers have pitched 49.7IP 39H 9ER 12BB 60Ks 3W 5Sv 1.63 ERA 1.03 WHIP.

Houston Astros – After Hector Rondon’s string of three saves in five days, the Astros turned to Ken Giles to get the final three outs of Tuesday’s win. Rondon was reportedly unavailable after his recent usage, giving Giles a chance to pick up his 11th save in 11 tries. Not only has Giles not blown a save chance but he also hasn’t allowed a run in any of those 11 opportunities. We’ll keep Rondon at the top of the hierarchy for now, but don’t be surprised if Giles gets another save chance and moves back to the front of the line.

Hierarchy remains: *Rondon | Giles | Devenski.
* = closer-by-committee

Measured by Statcast, he was every bit as good as the night before. Then the batters swung the bats.

Struck out Stanton, Sanchez and Hicks to put an end to the Yankees' eight-game winning streak.

If he was wrong before, not anymore.

The Monkey explains:

April 5, 2018

Houston Astros — Ken Giles owners have some reason for concern after A.J. Hinch chose a third inning of Brad Peacock rather than going to Giles with a one-run lead in the ninth. Hinch gave Giles a vote of confidence after the game, saying that the decision was all about “the way that Peacock was spinning the ball,” and that Giles would have come in at the first sign of trouble. Memories of Giles’s postseason struggles are unlikely to fade until he again proves himself effective in a tight spot.

Hierarchy remains: Giles | Devenski | Harris.
