A very tough Lost Win last night when he was taken out leading 3-1 in the ninth inning after giving up a single with two outs.

A cascade of boos greeted Alex Wilson as he marched in from the bullpen. Salvador Perez swatted his second pitch far into the left field bleachers.

"I'm a big believer in positive energy," said Verlander, "and I don't think that was a good situation to boo."

His average fastball velocity dropped to a career low, at 92.3 mph, and for the second year in a row he struggled with his control more than usual. All power pitchers come to a time they have to come to terms with the fact that they can no longer blow guys away with exceptional heat. In recent years Verlander has thrown his slider more and his fastball less, but he hasn't found the right mixture yet. Until he does he's going to have his rough games. The important thing to remember is that until he comes up with Plan B he's unlikely to ever again be the pitcher who was so dominant from 2010 to 2012. That's a reason to be careful bidding on him, not a reason to bid against him.

Deadcat bounce?  I haven't look at his peripherals, but I imagine getting Iglasias back should help.  They probably need a real defensive third baseman too.  But, that's not going to happen.
