Since I don't follow the AL very much, I had no idea that it was Dave Dombrowski who is the Tigers GM.

I always liked him when he ran the Expos, but he was hamstrung on the money side.

In addition to what Slyke said, JV also has the last 3 postseason 0 run 10+K performances.

First pitcher since Koufax to have back-to-back post-season appearances with 10 K's and no runs allowed in each start.

Wow.

Make that 31 innings, 12 hits, 7 walks, and 43 Ks.

Since allowing a HR to Coco Crisp to lead off the top of the 1st of Game 1 of the 2012 ALDS, JV has pitched 23 consecutive shutout innings vs the A's in the postseason striking out 33 while allowing a mere 10 hits and 6 walks.

Maybe there are "30" reasons?

Since when has Justin Verlander become a six-inning pitcher? Cost him the W.

Came back out after a 62-minute rain delay to get two more outs and the W.

If he pitched the sixth "to give the bullpen a break," you could say it was all about the team. But he didn't.

I'm not poking fun at Verlander. I'm trying to point out that wins and saves do mean a lot to those who actually play the game.

In this case, Verlander's not thinking, "The W might help me cop another Cy Young award." He's thinking, "I deserve a W because I had a big lead before it rained and I'm going to get it."
