What were the odds that he'd reach 20 wins in August?

Eleven wins in the first half. What are the odds that he'll win 20? That he leads the league in wins? (Sabathia also notched No. 11 today, Lester got his tenth.)

I remember thinking yesterday, when I noticed the D-Backs were starting Kelly Johnson, given his recent inability to make contact, "this is just cruel".

But he only struck out twice in four ABs!

How many of the four hits by the D'backs yesterday were well struck? Just looking at the 14/1 K/W in the boxscore, I suspect not many.

Now has 14 (out of 15) Quality Starts. Such high quality that his 8 wins and 2.66 ERA have to both be considered unlucky. The .231 BABIP? Maybe a little bit lucky.

And maybe not.

I heard Morris on WFAN Friday morning and he had nothing but great things to say about Verlander.

The Grand Rapids paper had an article Saturday morning quoting Jack Morris getting down on Verlander for wasting too much speed so early and trying so hard to strike out everybody since he could be pitching longer into many games if he tired to pitch to contact just a bit. He is a horse with a free and easy delivery. They are trying to pound this idea into Porcello. Seemed prophetic given his performance with only four Ks and still hitting 100mph in the 7th & 8th.
