An inning per K pitcher will earn less in 5x5 than 4x4.

A $2 difference for a pitcher of Verlander's caliber isn't something I'll lose sleep over. Another way of putting it is that this is a 3.6% difference, not a 20% difference.

I find the 5x5 difference odder.

I have him at $55 for 4x4, $52 for 5x5.

Still using the 2010. When the 2011 formula has been worked out, Verlander will come down a little bit. But I bet he still earns $50. What do you have him at?

Is that your 2010 formula there Alex or did you apply your 2011 formula to Verlander.

I ran my 4x4 formulas and while my 4x4 $ value for Verlander isn't that far off from yours, I almost feel like it can't be right.

My 5x5 values for 2011 showed Verlander's dominance, but just not quite as much as the $ chart does up there.

Top 10 5x5 A.L. Pitchers

1) Verlander $46
2) Jered Weaver $36
3) James Shields $34
4) Dan Haren $31
5) CC Sabathia $29
6) Josh Beckett $27
7) C.J. Wilson $27
8) Ricky Romero $27
9) Doug Fister $25
10) David Price $24

You know what? I think Myers is one of the eight. I got this factoid reading a three-week old copy of SI today at the gym. At that point, Verlander had made 31 starts, and the writer (can't remember his name, not Verducci) said only eight other pitchers since 1920 had made that many starts, going at least six innings every time.

The next time I'm at the gym I'll look for that issue but they're a bunch of neatniks over there, so I probably won't be able to check this. I'm thinking I must have have misunderstood; I mean, there can't be only six other pitchers since 1920 who have done this.

Anyone have that issue?

OK ... shoulda checked *before* posting :-)

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/gl.cgi?id=myersbr01&t=p&year=2010

On Brett Myers' 33rd and last start of 2010, he only lasted 5.2 IPs ...

Sorry for the noise in the Verlander thread ...

Didn't Brett Myers do that just last year?
