Four knocks yesterday to raise his slash stats to .267/.350/.402. Slashing .424/.525/.606 in his last ten games. But hasn't homered since June 25.

His Statcast averages on 264 balls in play (with the current MLB average):

Exit Velocity: 89.4 (88.6)

HR Distance: 407 (398)

Launch Angle: 9.9 (12.3)

Two homers in his past four games. Maybe, he's turned a corner.

K rate ... same.  Walk rate ... same.  BABIP ... slight improvement.

Power?  Cratered.  HR/FB is down to 6.1% ... and no change in his GB/FB ratio.  Going to have a hard time meeting, much less exceeding, last year's earnings at this rate.

I really wanted Bell, but my sheet price was $16.

Watching nearly all the Pirates games last year, I still am worried about some regression based on his long swing and pitchers exploiting in his sophomore season.

I hope I am wrong, of course.

He was on my original "buy" list, also at $18.  But then I bought Rizzo because I just thought $30 is reasonable for his bankability.  Not sure it was the right choice - but there wasn't much in the way of bargain buying at 1B.
