Rotoworld:

08.28: Jordan Montgomery allowed five runs over five innings in Saturday's no-decision against the Braves.  (He also allowed eight hits, walked one, and struck out four. In the top of the fourth, the Braves plated their first four runs of the game. And in
the subsequent frame, the Braves scored another run on a double.
Montgomery threw a complete game shutout in his previous outing, so this
was a disappointing follow-up performance.)

There's only 27 other teams to trade with if you refuse to deal with the Rays or Cardinals.  And, the Rockies don't make trades, so that makes 26 teams to trade with.

Trading with the Cardinals is a low percentage play. The sooner GMs figure that out the better off they will be.

One wonders about how analytics may have made real GMs more like roto GMs.  Clearly there were chemistry consequences to the deal.  Montgomery seemed well liked and Montas seems like he's perpetually pissed off that his french fries are too soggy.  And for what?  The line of "Montas will start a postseason game, Montgomery would not have" seemed ridiculous the moment it was uttered.

The combination of Molina, Arenado, the other Cardinals' defenders and being outside the AL East is working wonders for Montgomery.  It also can't look good for Cashman that his team is in a tailspin soon after he traded away a pitcher who is looking like he's an ace right now, and they got an injured player in return.

New York Post:

ST. LOUIS — Trading away Jordan Montgomery has already hurt the Yankees.

The left-hander, making his first start for the Cardinals, tossed five scoreless innings, but the Yankees have bigger concerns after their 1-0 loss Saturday night.

They have lost four games in a row for the first time this season, as well as five of six overall. And they have dropped two straight series, something they hadn’t done previously in 2022.

While their record remains an impressive 70-38, they have gone 6-9 since the All-Star break and they have the Astros on their tails for the best record in the American League. Houston is just a half-game back at 70-39.

“We’re not excited about it,’’ Aaron Judge said. “But we’ve still got a great ballclub. … We lost two series [in a row]. So what? It’s time to move on.”

The latest defeat came in front of the largest crowd of this version of Busch Stadium — 48,581 — as the Yankees finished with just a pair of hits, and none after the third inning.

Finally gets a W. If we make five innings the threshold for a Quality Start (as we should these days), Montgomery has had eight.
