I reckoned that the 15-15 Florida Marlins (2nd place, NL East) were 4 sure buyers leading up to the trade deadline.  The Marte trade confirmed my suspicion.  But how to rectify the apparent Villar salary dump with the Buffjays?  Then I came across this nugget:

MIAMI-TORONTO TRADE
Marlins get: PTBNL
Blue Jays get: INF Jonathan Villar

According to reports, that player will be outfield prospect Griffin Conine, the son of "Mr. Marlin," Jeff Conine.  @JoeFrisaro         marlins.com

Stolen base leaders at the end of September:

Villar 9

Trevor Story 8

Jon Bert 8

Jose Ramirez 8

Adalberto Mondesi 8

White Merrifield 7

Fernando Tatis 7

Tommy Pham 6

Roman Quinn 6

Mookie Betts 6

Isiah Kiner-Falefa 6

Austin Slater 6

Andre Gimenez 6

Dylan Moore 6

Lots of surprises here. Which I guess is not a surprise when the stolen base itself is so rare. Twenty-five players have four or more.

Jonathan Villar (2B) MIA - Jul. 07

https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=742596

Villar may not be the Marlins' regular center fielder this season, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: The veteran second baseman had just begun adjusting to a new defensive home when spring training was put on pause, and the quick ramp-up and circumstances of summer camp may not give Villar enough time to get comfortable in the outfield. "We do see him a little more infield now," manager Don Mattingly said Monday. "With the DH, he can go a little bit back and forth -- with center field, second base, shortstop and DH -- to be able to keep him fresh." Villar still figures to be in the lineup every day as the leadoff hitter, however, and the shift away from a full transition to center field could actually be good news for his fantasy value if it allows him to gain extra position eligibility.

In the year of no steals, 2019, Villar led the AL from July 24 onward with 23, followed by Mallex Smith (19) and Thomas Pham (15).

Gene has talked me into spending a lot more for Villar than $21, I can tell you that.

One last one from the Wise Guy:

Jonathan Villar

His time to 2nd base on steal attempts is .3
seconds slower than the fastest (Terrance Gore), and his Sprint Speed is 68th
percentile, so clearly Villar is stealing off the pitchers and catchers. The NL
East has Realmuto, who is very good at shutting down the running game, and then
a bunch of guys who throw out basestealers when they trip on
their way. Consider 35 bags his over/under and I doubt you'll be far wrong. My advice on his hitting is go to the career, .261/.328/.408.
Qualifies at 2B and SS. $21

Avoided arbitration, agreeing to $8.2 million.

DFA'd by the aribiter-fearing O's in November, then undesignated when the Marlins, of all people, claimed him, and subsequently traded to the Marlins for Easton Lucas.

Remember the name.
