Found Lindy's Sports Baseball Preview 2022 this afternoon at Barnes & Noble. Lots of good stuff in it, even if the previews themselves are subject to drastic change as soon as the lockout ends.
A two-page spread called Value in Numbers ranks players in ways that simply didn't exist before the advent of Statcast.
First example --
FASTBALL: MOST RISE ON FOUR-SEAMER (PCT)
1. John Means 2.6
2. Triston McKenzie 2.5
3. Nick Pivetta 2.4
4. Walker Buehler 2.3
4. Dylan Cease 2.3
4. Cristian Javier 2.3
PCT I think is the amount the pitch moves (up, down, sideways) compared to the average of all such pitches. We know that "rising fastballs" don't actually rise, so the statement being made here is that Means' four-seamer sinks 2.6 percent less than the average four-seamer sinks. Something like that.
Put simply, these six pitchers had the most "upward" movement on their four-seam fastballs and any kind of movement -- up, down, or sideways -- is a good thing.
