As noted below - the key to Musgrove's success seems to be limiting his exposure?  I don't know if the Pirates bullpen could handle it, but making him a 5 to 6 inning starter seems to have its virtues.

Chris Berman's nickname for him would be Joe Musgrove love.

I'd say 2020 is not his last opportunity for breakout ... ie. I think he will have a season within the next 3 to 4 where he gets Cy Young votes ...

A very disappointing year for those speculating on upside.  Mr. Inconsistency - 8 games with 5 or more ER surrendered ... 5 games with 6 or more shutout innings.

Looks like batters get comfortable with him as the game progresses ... .606 OPS for first time through the order, jumping to .820+ for the 2nd and 3rd times.

Still less than 500 MLB innings ... breakout in 2020?  Or WYSWYG?

So the Pirates have a TBD listed for Wednesday's game ... do they just bring Musgrove out again after his ridiculously short outing today?

That's two really, really ugly outings in a row ... fastball velocity is still up, but hitters just sitting on his stuff.  Tipping his pitches?

The Cards beat the Buccos 17-4 tonight.

Interesting side note: both teams used 4 pitchers.

Just getting in some work after Saturday's rain out. He's scheduled to start Friday against Sonny Gray.

Damn ... after seeing Musgrove sent in for long relief today I'm missing Slyke once again.  He'd know what's up!
