One guy proposes redraft every couple years in the off-season. He went down 4-8 this year even with the tweak- it would be for 2013 and would not include minor leaguers - they could be retained. Never going to happen. And, we have only 5 major league keepers.

We haven't re-drafted since 2000, so I guess folks figure it's time. That, and I'm the one with the productive farm system and good keeper bargains.

We said that anyone who'd raised a guy past 2012 would get to scale back his salary to the level that he would have were he only raised through 2012. I think also that it was an alternative to keeping the Astros in our league, which was less enthusiastically received.

Oddly enough, the teams in our league that play for 5 years out have never won. Not once.

Yeah. That would pretty much end our league as we know it if that passed. Too many of us like playing for the long term.

Curious how you got that to work, Mike. Toz and I have floated the idea of a jubilee a couple of times now and not only has it failed to pass but two owners are militantly against it to the point that they say they'll quit if we do it. Their argument is that it would have to be 5 years out in the future since freezes/farm players/strategy often takes this long to play out.

Alex beat me to it.

In cap leagues (like mine), an interesting wrinkle to all of this is that the Astros all essentially become option year players. This might have the opposite effect on Astros. I'd be reluctant to let another contender get a par value Lowrie that he can flip in a dump deal in June.

In my home league we've decided to do a complete re-draft in 2013. So, at least the Astros won't be the only ones getting short shrift as far as long-term value goes.

I would think if you have one of the better keeper lists you'd be all over the 'Stros.

There will be a subgroup that won't bid on any Astros at all in keeper leagues next year.
