The only way the Dodgers live to play another day is they get to the Braves' bullpen tonight.

Ben Spanier at BP thinks they can. (And points out that if they do, they still have to contend with Max Fried and Ian Anderson.)

One Big Thing

On the surface, the Braves’ bullpen was solid enough in the regular season, pieced together with journeymen of varying fame; Jacob Webb (0.00), A.J. Minter(0.83), Chris Martin (1.00), Grant Dayton (2.30), Shane Greene (2.60), Darren O’Day (2.77), Tyler Matzek (2.79), and closer Mark Melancon (2.78), all boast ERAs under three. That’s pretty incredible, actually, and goes a ways toward explaining how Atlanta managed to hold it together and field an average pitching staff in spite of all the rotation tumult. However, our main underlying metric doesn’t like this collection of arms nearly as much as the top-line numbers do. Of all the pitchers just named, only Matzek (2.88) has a DRA even remotely close to his ERA. Martin and Minter still look pretty good, if not elite, at 3.70 and 3.79. Melancon, Webb, and O’Day edge toward mediocrity (4.03, 4.17, 4.30) while Greene and Dayton (4.54, 5.00) are beginning to tread in dangerous territory.

Jacob Webb (P) ATL - Feb. 13

https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/player.php?id=737252

Webb (elbow) is throwing without any restrictions, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

ROTOWIRE RECOMMENDS: As expected, Webb is on track to be ready for the start of the 2020 season after missing the second half of the 2019 campaign with a right elbow impingement that ultimately required surgery.
