On top of all that, the Yanks inch past the O's in the wild card race.

As my squad languishes in 10th, we take comfort in slim reeds of 2014 hope, like Nova at a buck. He was dominant last night against the O's; it's only one game, but . . .

Nova's fastball got slaughtered last year after being neutral in previous years, to the tune of 20 runs below average under either system Fangraphs offers. Meanwhile his curveball was reasonably effective.

Meanwhile ESPN offers that Nova had the 2nd best percentage of swing and miss in 2 strike counts last year(behind Yu)

Now he's tinkering this spring and just got jacked around by a Single A squad. I mean, the potential is there, but this guy might actually benefit from some time in AAA to figure out what is working and what is not.

HR/Fly% was 16.6% last year and that's a stat that affects both your HRs allowed and your BABIP. Is it possible the dropoff in GB rate is as a result of throwing more of the kinds of pitches that gets you Ks.

Here's another I'd take a shot on if backed into a corner. The Babip and the HR's did him in, but in 5x5 he didn't kill you because his K rate went way up.

A bad Spring might see him at AAA, but if he makes the rotation I like his chances to turn a profit. If he's going to have a "prime" now's a good time to start.
