Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that the Cardinals will release Greg Holland.

Cardinals activated RHP Greg Holland from the 10-day disabled list.
And ... he needs a team change here ...

I haven't tracked all of the late signing pitchers, but in the AL both Cobb and Lynn have struggled. This is the first I've looked at Holland. It really hurts to miss all of spring training if you're a pitcher.

Nope.

167 saves in the last 4 years said most of my FAAB budget was invested in a sure thing. Now beginning to think he will never be the Cardinal closer. Anyone think otherwise?

Who needs spring training? Greg Holland, apparently.
Walk, Walk, Sac Bunt, Intentional Walk, Walk.
Walk to the showers.

Derrick Goold @ St. Louis Post-Dispatch sez ...
Holland will take a physical late Thursday evening, and if he passes the team will finalize the contract
Once an agreement is in place, the Cardinals will try to get Holland some work in minor-league games before moving him to the majors as their closer.
Holland had 58 games finished for the Rockies this past season. At the All-Star break, Holland had 28 saves and a 1.62 ERA. His second-half ERA bloated to greater than 6.00 due to a difficult August. The Cardinals will use the medical review Thursday night to determine if there was a physical reason for the dip in production.
