Agree with the low-20s bid, though depending on the composition of your team, pushing him higher could well be a good play if otherwise your team (especially your hitting) is solid and low-risk.

The trick, of course, is to know that when his name gets called. Easier in keeper leagues than re-draft leagues.

My instinct is $23. My suspicion is that there's going to be that one guy or gal in the room who pushes Giancarlo to the upper $20s and it won't matter.

His average PA over the last four years is about 475, which is about 115 games. But the issue here is how much to bet that he'll do better than he has in two of the last four years. He did in 2014 and 2015, but he missed half the season in '15, so it ended up paying like the bad seasons. Falling walk rate, bad luck, injury prone, risky. Maybe I'll lower it to $21.

What are you projecting his games played at?

What's his price in 2017? His high price used to be justified because if he ever stayed healthy he'd blow through it, but last year looks a little too much like 2013 for my taste. Only with a falling walk rate. I wrote $23 on my spreadsheet just now for 2017 5x5 roto price. Any thoughts?

Back on July 8, Giancarlo hit a pitch from Dan Straily coming his way at 82.3 mph going the other way at 118.9 mph. The launch angle was 12.2 degrees.

Home or away? Statcast doesn't say, but the ball traveled a mere 301 feet before, presumably, it banged into a fence and he had to settle for a double.

In May he hit a ball from Oliver Perez 118.9 miles per hour, with a launch angle of 5.9, and was held to a single!

The five hardest-hit balls all season, in either league, were hit by Giancarlo. Out of that he got three singles and a double. (The other was a force out.)

Four batters take up the next four spots on the exit velocity list, then Stanton comes roaring back, claiming the next three. Out of these he gets two singles. (The other is a field out.)

He appears 21 times on the Statcast list of top 50 exit velocities in 2016. He's kind of like Aroldis Chapman in reverse.

It's true that a number of his batted balls have negative launch angles, but 13 don't.

Three go out of the park.

Was there an unluckier batter all year?

I don't think so.

Ya Gotta Believe.  Last place on June 11th and 14th place on Aug 27th.  9th place today with an outside shot at a 6th place finish. I'll attribute it all to A-Rod's retirement.  But if that's not it, then it is the big turnaround by Justin Upton and big hitting by Asdrubal, Pujols, Crush Davis and, of course, Trout.  Archer and Stroman improving and Liriano out of the rotation.  There is no quit in the Not So Rickety Shaws

Holy smokes, look where the Rickshaws are today!

And, sigh, where the Tanks are, again. At our high-water mark we were in -- I don't know -- 15th.

I will leave it to the Rickshaws to explain their meteoric rise.

With a surge of AB, Tanks are now comfortably out of last (in 19th place). Once again only three hitters DNP, which is about as good as it gets in Doubt Wars.
