The kid came up big today....real big.

The Pirates bats responded, which they usually do against fastball pitchers.

Liriano goes on Sunday. Expecting the PNC faithful to be as raucous as they were in the Wild Card game.

Fanned 12 in six innings tonight. That makes 28 in is last three starts, all wins, all on the heels of a Pirates loss. In his first two starts in the majors, covering 12 innings, he struck out three. I doubt the fastball has gotten any faster but it would seem to have more life. He's been a life-saver for the Pirates without a doubt.

Pitched his best game yesterday, and has now lost his last two starts.

Both losses 2-1 nail-biters to the Oakland A's, a team that in many ways resembles the Pirates.

In front of crowds of around 24,000.

With interleague play now a necessity, somebody's got to invent a better way of doing it.

Another impressive outing last night, and actually struck a few guys out this time (5).

3-0 in his first 3 big league starts. He brings the heat and has shown great command so far....I am cautiously optimistic.

But even the fastball isn't a swing-and-miss pitch.

Which can make for some very efficient innings. Adrian Gonzalez flied out to left on a total of two pitches his first times up a gainst him. In his next he hit a ground-rule double to left center on the first pitch.

The lack of K's is concerning. Great fastball but his secondary stuff looks mediocre so far.

Outdueled Zach Greinke yesterday in front of 37,000 in PNC. But it remains odd that a guy in the high 90's on the gun fans so few batters (one in 5 2/3 innings). Of the 52 strikes he threw, 22 were put in play, 18 were fouled off (or hit foul), eight were taken for strikes, and four were swung at and missed.

Pretty exciting debut tonight. Stuff looked like front line starter stuff. I am cautiously optimistic. 20 strait losing seasons will have that affect on you.
