Garrett Hampson, 2B, Rockies. Hampson just keeps rolling along. He went 3-for-6 with a triple yesterday raising his slash line at Triple-A Albuquerque to .323/.387/.471.
Jul 16 '18
Slow start at AAA, slashing .241/.375/.397 in May (15 games) ... but June has been very good to him so far with a .448/.515/.552 line in 8 games.
More interesting - his schedule was heavy loaded at home in May, and he's been on the road more in June. Since callup a .742 OPS in Albuquerque, and a .986 OPS on the road.
K-rate has also dropped significantly in June.
Only 7 SB to 4 CS at AAA (compared to 19-1 at AA in April) ... but he looks like someone who makes adjustments quickly.

K rate down around 12% ... more walks than K's ... .157 ISO ... it's not inconceivable that Hampson could be a productive major leaguer right off the bat.

This, in the Denver Post today:
For now, Daniel Castro and Pat Valaika will fill in for LeMahieu. Manager Bud Black said he will make the decision on whom to start on a “day-to-day basis.”
However, another possibility could be the promotion of infield prospect Garrett Hampson, who was moved from Double-A Hartford to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. The athletic Hampson, 23, hit .304 with four home runs, 15 RBIs and 19 stolen bases in 20 attempts for Hartford.

Multi-hit May: Hartford shortstop Garrett Hampson has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games, but what makes his efforts unique is that he has collected exactly two hits in each of those games. During this stretch, the Rockies' No. 7 prospect has scored 12 runs, driven in five, walked eight times and is 6-for-6 on stolen base attempts. Hampson leads the league with 19 stolen bases, is tied for second with 28 runs scored and is fourth with 43 hits.

Hampson (16) and Rogers (4) were both in BB America's hot list this week.
" Hampson brings top-flight speed as a 70-grade runner on the 20-to-80 scouting scale, and he showed it off by stealing six bases in as many tries this week. After swiping 51 bags last year, he’s 11-for-11 in 16 games this season. Part of what makes Hampson such a prolific basestealer is how often he reaches base in the first place, showing excellent contact skills and excellent plate discipline"

Carrying over my comment:
36 SB in short season in '16, 51 SB at high A last year, and he's started 2018 with 5 steals in 6 games at AA Hartford. Plus 8 HR last year so there's a chance pitchers won't knock the bat out of his hands as he advances.
LeMahieu is still a very good MLB player (averaged 3.5 WAR over the last 3 years, and a solid start to 2018) but he's also a FA at the end of this season. Meanwhile, the Rockies will likely be focusing their energies on extending Arenado going into his last year of arbitration (they had bought out 2017-2018 at a 2 year $29.5 mil deal).
Just by current contracts the Rockies payroll will increase a few mil going into 2019, and I'd figure at least an $8 million bump is coming for Arenado (who's earning $17.5 mil in 2018) and at least another $10 million combined for Gray and Story (both making MLB minimum this year - and hitting arb next winter). From 2015 to 2018 the Rockies opening day payroll already increased over 40%. I imagine that the front office will be keeping an eye on Hampson to help decide whether to make a qualifying offer to LeMahieu next winter, or try to work out a multi-year deal.

Garrett Hampson brought from the depths. No. 4 in Rotowire's ranking of Rocks prospects.
